Tangible expression of love after Hurricane Harvey hits Houston

I’m a photographer who promotes heirloom quality portraiture that’s meant to last a lifetime and my clients book their session with me because they value printing/framing & displaying art work in their homes. It’s truly devastating to think that some of my client’s beautiful prints were destroyed in a matter of hours. Hurricane Harvey showed no mercy.

I’m not sure why…maybe it’s just human nature(?) but I feel a bit of guilt that my house looks perfect right now. Our little neighborhood had no flooding. Sure, the neighborhoods right around us and grocery store that I shop at just two miles down the road flooded, but it’s not the same. My sweet friend Sarah who lives 8 miles away had 2.5 ft of flooding in her home and while I am so sad for her and her sweet family, I don’t feel like I can be a great source of encouragement because I’ve not been through it. I wasn’t stuck in my second floor waiting to be evacuated like she was. I didn’t come home to a house in ruins, with months of remodeling ahead of me. I just sat glued to the TV, eating all the junk food in my house, hoping that my home’s elevation was high enough to avoid being flooded by the creek near our house.

Of course, after such devastation hits my city, I want to help & give back. Obviously, I want to donate the massive pile of diapers that I have in Adia’s closet that are too small for her. But what I kept coming back to were my clients (and really, many are my sweet friends now). How could I help in a way that was tangible for them?

Not all of these clients have suffered damage, but I can guarantee you that all of these people know SOMEONE who has experienced loss from Hurricane Harvey.
