What to Wear for your Dallas Newborn Session with Domus Aurea Portraits

It’s incredibly important to me that I photograph my clients in something that reflects who THEY are. This is even more important to me as a lifestyle newborn photographer since I will be photographing you in your home. I want your wardrobe choices to be reflective of who YOU are.

So here a few suggestions I make to clients (specifically my mama clients as postpartum bodies are just frustrating!) who want help with wardrobe for our session:

  1. Order Online (unless you have the stamina to go shopping before baby’s arrival — I know I didn’t! I was a lazy pregnant woman. Ha!)

Purchase a bunch of options that you like (in different sizes) and then return whatever you don’t like after you’ve had your baby and tried them on.

Nordstrom

HATCH

ASOS

Fillyboo

Free People

2. If you LOVE color — go with color! Be you! But I would avoid neon colors. Neon will make your face look like the color you are wearing and is a Photoshop nightmare. ;)

3. Think about your home when choosing colors/patterns.

  • Is it minimal/modern? Do you want that to be reflected in your portraits? Then go with a more clean approach to your clothing. On the flipside, if it’s modern with lots of white, greys, blacks — you havewhite and cream for newborn session clothing a little more freedom in the color department. colorful option for what to wear during newborn sessionThink about the nursery and your master bedroom. How will your clothing look in those rooms? Is the nursery a dark charcoal? If so, I’d try not to blend in by wearing the same color. Is there wallpaper on your walls? Then I’d go with something less busy for your outfit so it’s not distracting.

4. Find something that you feel comfortable in. Our postpartum bodies can be frustrating and you don’t want to be pulling and tugging the whole session. Unless you are already back to pre-postpartum sizes or totally fine with your postpartum tummy, I suggest wearing something a little bit loose around your stomach so that you aren’t self-conscious during our session. It’s important that you feel beautiful and part of that is finding something you are comfortable wearing.

Hopefully this is helpful to you! I know I felt a little lost when I had my newborn session and it would have helped to have these tips when I was deciding what to wear. And of course, if you ever want my personal help, I’m happy to text/email/call back and forth to help you make the right choice for your session with me.
